Soccer

Soccer, also known as football in most countries outside North America, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net, which is typically protected by a goalkeeper. The game is played on a rectangular field, commonly referred to as a pitch, with a goal at each end.

Soccer is governed by the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) at the international level, and various other organizations at the national and local levels. The game is known for its continuous play, with a match typically lasting 90 minutes, divided into two halves, and is played with little interruption, aside from stoppages for injuries, fouls, and other brief delays.

Soccer is characterized by its use of foot skills, with players primarily using their feet to control and pass the ball, although they can also use their heads and torsos. The global popularity of soccer is immense, making it one of the most widely watched and played sports in the world, with major tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup drawing significant international attention.
