Athletics

Athletics is a collection of sporting events that involve competitive physical activities and skills, primarily centered around running, jumping, throwing, and walking. It is often organized into track and field events, road running, cross country running, and race walking. The traditional track and field events include sprints, middle-distance and long-distance races, hurdles, relays, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw, and pole vault. Athletics is governed by various international federations, with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), now known as World Athletics, being the leading body. The sport is characterized by its focus on individual or team performance and is commonly associated with competitions such as the Olympics and World Championships. The term “athletics” can also encompass the general training and preparation for these physical activities, emphasizing speed, agility, strength, and endurance.
